It Comes With Experience, Montorship, and Humility
Just remember that leadership development--call it career development--is a continual process. It's not like a game of checkers. It's a game of chess, always figuring out the next five or six moves and taking avantage of them.
I remember the first true leadership position I held. I skipped the whole management thing and moved right into a director level role. Let's just say I didn't do very well. I had to swallow my pride and step down after one year.
I was fortunate enough to get re-assigned to a management role in the same company. This opportunity worked out. My team and I were able to build our own department, and I became a director again!
There where three things that made the second go around a success...
1. Experience
2. I Had a Great Mentor
3. Humility
